Getting Laser Hair Removal Done
Having done all my research and found a clinic
that I was happy with, all that remained for me was to
get the laser hair
removal done. While I had some hair growth problems
on various parts of my body, I decided to tackle one area
first with laser
hair removal treatment. And depending on how happy I
was with the results of my laser hair removal
treatment, would then go on to other areas. So I
started with laser
hair removal for my legs.
I discussed the various types of lasers that
could be used with my doctor, bwut left the final
decision up to him for my laser hair removal
procedure. I just wanted to establish that I had done
my research on laser hair removal and
should not be taken for a ride.
Along with the decision on what type of laser hair removal to
go in for, my skin was tested for any sensitivities or
allergies that would have required special precautions.
As in most cases of laser hair removal
nothing was found, so it was all clear. A few pictures
were taken of my legs, prior to the laser hair removal
procedure, so that the area to be treated could be
clearly defined.
Unfortunately, I went for the laser hair removal in
summer, so I had quite a tan. Since this would have affected
the efficiency of the laser hair removal
treatment, I was told to keep out of the sun for a month and
come back when my tan had gone. I wasn’t expecting this
delay but there was no point risking the results of the
laser hair
removal so I had to wait. During this period I could not
wax my legs or give them any other hair removal treatment.
After a month when my tan had gone, I was ready
for my first laser
hair removal treatment. My first experience of
laser hair
removal was surprisingly un-dramatic. I was asked to
put on a hospital gown and lie down on a bed. A nurse
used a clipper to trim my now quite long leg hair down to
a long stubble. I discovered that this is done because
the best results from laser hair removal are
obtained when the hair is short.
The doctor then came in to begin the laser hair removal
process and the laser machine was wheeled over to the
bed. A metal device was placed on one leg and a cold pad
placed next to it. The machine was turned on and all I
could here was a faint hum. I felt a slight stinging in
my legs – the doctor told me that this was the laser
hitting the hair follicle and heating it till it was
damaged enough to restrict hair growth.
A little into the laser hair removal
process, the doctor asked if I wanted a local anesthetic
for the pain, but since it was quite mild, I refused.
During the laser
hair removal procedure, there was also a slight odor
from the heated hair follicles but again this wasn't
unbearable and the air conditioning soon took the smell
away.
The total laser hair removal treatment
of both my legs took about 75 minutes. I had absolutely no
side effects or discomfort worth talking about, and like
everyone else who goes in for laser hair removal, I
was able to walk out of the clinic and go about the rest
of my day in a normal way.
This laser hair removal
treatment was done four times over the space of six
months and now I go in for maintenance treatment just
once a year.
